Collection management projects like RFID tagging, reclassification, inventory, and moving may involve handling nearly every item in a library’s collection. They can also include additional activities such as consolidation, selection for high-density storage, weeding, interfiling, and identification of mismatched labels or other anomalies.

Depending on the scale of the work and the size of the collection, the calendar for your project may range anywhere from a few weeks to several months to more than a year. Our on-site teams work with minimal disruption to your staff and patrons, allowing you keep the library open even in the middle of a major collection move.

To meet your library’s project requirements, we offer four tiers of on-site services.

The Classic Model

Our classic, full-service, on-site model sends a project manager to assess the space, staffing, and resources required to carry out the work you request. We create a detailed project plan, assemble the technology, equipment, and supplies necessary, hire a team, and execute the project from beginning to end. We keep you apprised of milestones and incremental progress on a weekly or – when the project requires – a daily basis.

The Lite Model

The lite version of our classic service package gives you the flexibility to redirect your library staff to work on the project. Backstage still provides a full-time project manager, the planning and technology resources, troubleshooting, quality assurance checks, and progress monitoring. If you have staff available, this model leverages your human resources to mitigate budget requirements. We can also operate with a mix of your personnel and our local staff.

The Remote Model

When reducing cost is paramount and timelines can be drawn out longer without disrupting your plans, the remote model may be a fit. Maintaining an experienced Backstage project manager away from home can be a significant factor in the cost of an on-site project. With this option, the project manager is at your library only during startup, creating the plan and training a small team. By limiting the number of project staff to just a few workers, remote management becomes feasible.

The Basic Model

The basic option lends you the expertise of a Backstage project manager as a consultant on your project. We visit your library to assess scope, timeline, and resource requirements. Then we produce a comprehensive plan that your staff can follow to successfully complete the project on their own. Our project manager remains available for additional consultation and support through the course of your work.

Whether your project requires the classic full package, just the basic consulting plan, or something in between, we’re dedicated to making your project a success. Give us a call to start exploring what you can accomplish with a Backstage team at your side.
