Months of work have led us, with great excitement, to announce the opening of our third Backstage office location, this one in Bethlehem, PA. Located just a few blocks away from our Preservation Service Center on Commerce Way, this new East Coast center of Collection Management operations on Courtney Street boasts 15 workspaces, 4 private offices, a 670 ft² FADGI-compliant studio space, and a large material storage area that can receive pallets with a truck-height loading dock.
“We are excited to announce the completion of our new 6,000 square foot office space, dedicated to expanding our cataloging and digitization services,” says Nate Cothran, company president. “This addition allows us to enhance our capabilities, streamline our processes, and better serve our clients with innovative solutions, all while continuing to build on the strong foundation established at our main office.”

The focus, for now, has been to improve the workspace environment and meet the growing needs of our cataloging and archival service groups. Jake Bastian, VP of Collection Management Services, has been eager to finalize the migration of our Pennsylvania team. “With this new space, we’ll be able to deliver more efficient cataloging and metadata solutions and streamline our shelf-ready operations for libraries across the Eastern U.S.,” he explains. “It also gives us room to expand our archival services, helping us stay true to our mission of making library resources more accessible and discoverable. The move has brought new energy to our team, and we’re looking forward to continuing our work in this great new space.”

Space for our cataloging operations has more than doubled from their former office on Commerce Way and now includes an alcove specifically designed to be the center of all physical processing tasks. Some of the latest additions to our operations include a CoLibri book covering system as well as a surrogate image creation station. Specialized bookcases and a dedicated arrangement of desks and equipment will mean that our shelf-ready services are more efficient than ever.
Migrating our equipment, supplies, and staff has required the combined effort and time of our Digitization and Collection Management departments as well as Backstage’s technical team. Special thanks go to our Bethlehem office manager, Brielle Galinski, who collaborated with the construction team and our crews to help pull together the organizational strings on various steps in the process. Thanks, too, go to the CMS department’s James and Dan who moved library materials to their new home-away-from-home.

Lastly, thanks go to our wonderful library, museum, and archive partners who honor us every day with their collaboration and trust, allowing us to share in the responsibility of stewarding heritage collections from all over the world.
