In what state are the MARC records from your new arrivals? Our team, trained for both original and copy cataloging, can enhance your existing metadata to bring it into compliance with your library’s usual specifications. Sometimes, this is just adding subject headings. Other times, we are called on to make more detailed changes while inserting local fields that include new barcodes, location codes, and more.
One size doesn’t fit all.
We’ll talk through your library’s MARC specifications and put together a set of guidelines that govern how each record will be cataloged or edited.
Just about all formats and languages
can be handled by our team. We have experts for special formats and a network of catalogers that, combined, work in over 100 languages, dialects, and scripts.
From books and CDs to Blu-rays and even laptops, we’ve helped many libraries prepare their latest resources for circulation. We’ll use your specifications and your supplies (kept tidily marked for use in your project only) to ready materials for your shelves. Need to incorporate the cost of supplies into the project for budgeting purposes? Backstage is able to purchase supplies instead for an added fee.
* Backstage has preferred stock that we use for all projects, details below.
Our standard label is the Zebra 1 x 1.5 Polypro 3000T label with a thermal transfer printer. There are other sizes available, but the 1 x 1.5 is the most common. For these, and for barcodes, we can additionally apply a label protector: we recommend Demco Ultra-Aggressive Glossy label protectors, although we can use protectors from your own stock if preferred.
We use the Colibri E-Davinci book covering system with 4.7 mil covers, with all three sizes (mini, standard, and big) available for projects. These can be used with any book: paperback, hardback, with dust jackets, etc.
Comprehensive shelf-ready processing is available for libraries working with Ingram Library Services (“ILS”). This collaboration brings together Ingram’s industry leading supply chain, expansive title availability, and deep library expertise with Backstage’s renowned cataloging and metadata services.
If you’re working with Backstage, you can check with your publisher or distributor to see if materials can be sent directly from the warehouse to one of our offices. This reduces shipping and handling costs and gets materials ready for circulation faster.
Backstage has partnered with libraries to support processing for many types of acquisitions. Learn more about one such project, active since 2019, where we receive LC-CAP shipments for a major United States research library and turn around materials ready for shelving or storage.
