Job Description
The Metadata Services Support Technician is responsible for carrying out non-cataloging tasks necessary to bolster the efficiency of the Metadata team. Tasks include but are not limited to using a camera to capture digital images of resources for remote catalogers, physically processing cataloged resources to be made shelf-ready (e.g., printing and applying call number spine labels), assisting the Shipping Manager with shipping-related tasks such as unpacking and preparing resources for cataloging, packing completed resources for shipping, and completing other assigned tasks as necessary. The Technician may also be trained in cataloging and assigned metadata-related tasks from time-to-time, depending on the available workload. The ideal candidate is a fast learner, detail-oriented, and independent worker without fear of asking questions when necessary.
Schedule, Compensation, & Benefits
This is a non-exempt part-time (20 hours per week) in-person position located in our Provo, UT office. The position’s shift schedule is semi-flexible and should include the core office hours of 9:00am – 1:00pm. Compensation starts at $15.25 per hour. Benefits include all standard benefits for part-time employees of Backstage Library Works.
Primary Responsibilities
- Efficiently capture digital images of resources for off-site catalogers ensuring all necessary parts of the resource are captured for that purpose.
- Physically process resources to be made shelf-ready according to prescribed guidelines unique to each project.
- Assist the shipping manager in receiving, unpacking, preparing, and securely packing client materials following material handling guidelines.
- Complete other support- and metadata-related tasks as assigned.

Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Introductory understanding of metadata principles.
- Experience handling rare, fragile, and/or culturally significant resources.
- Academic interest in the field of Library & Information Science.
