Job Description
Backstage Library Works is seeking qualified applications for the role of Library Inventory Technician. As a library inventory technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining accurate library collections by conducting a thorough inventory of special collections volumes and ensuring alignment with the library’s catalog and physical identification standards. This will involve conducting a comprehensive check of each volume against its associated metadata, inserting a new identification slip in the volume, and ensuring it is in its appropriate spot on the shelf according to shelf-list order guidelines. This will also involve shifting and interfiling collection materials from storage into the main library area.
The Library Inventory Technician is expected to maintain set productivity goals to ensure the project stays on track with scheduled timelines. Additionally, to ensure customer satisfaction, daily quality control checks will be performed by your direct supervisor, with feedback provided.
Schedule, Compensation, & Benefits
This temporary, non-exempt, full-time position entails working 40 hours per week, with one 30-minute unpaid lunch break and two 15-minute paid breaks. The schedule for this role is first shift, Monday through Friday. The anticipated completion date for this position is February 9, 2024.
Compensation for the Library Inventory Technician position is set at $23.50 per hour. Full-time employee benefits include holiday pay, accrued paid time off, health, vision, and dental insurance, 401(k) matching and more (some benefits become accessible after a two-month period of employment is completed).
Primary Responsibilities
- Adhere to proper materials handling guidelines to ensure the preservation of library materials.
- Accurately identify matching identification slip with each volume processed.
- Conduct efficient comparisons between each volume and its corresponding metadata.
- Carefully verify shelf-list order of each volume following appropriate guidelines.
- Safely relocate and interfile materials from storage into the main special collections area.
- Provide assistance to the team lead and project manager with additional assigned duties related to the project as needed.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Familiarity with basic computer skills including typing, file management, and working with spreadsheets.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks consistently and accurately.
- Strong organization skills to effectively manage inventory processes.
- Keen attention to detail for meticulous metadata comparison and shelf-list verification.
- Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new tasks.
- Professional attitude and excellent work ethic.
- Reliable transportation for commuting to the job site.
Preferred Additional Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in a related field
- Prior experience working in a library environment.
- Experience working in a production-oriented environment, demonstrating efficiency and meeting deadlines.
- Familiarity with industry accepted materials handling procedures of special libary collections.
