A simple backup solution
One worry that we all have is what might
happen to our data if a computer crashes. By taking a few simple precautions,
you shouldn’t need to worry
any longer.
Many people subscribe to online backup
services or pay several hundred dollars for a backup utility. While this
may be useful to back up an entire network, you don’t need to spend
any money to back up your individual computer. Built into Windows XP, Windows
2000, and other operating systems is a backup application which can back
up your data to another computer, a network drive, or even a floppy disk.
With this tool, you can schedule your backup process to run once, daily, weekly,
or monthly. You can also customize it to only back up the files that you need.
To schedule a backup in Windows, go to
Start – All Programs – Accessories – System
Tools – Backup. This will lead you to a “Backup Wizard” which
will guide you through all of the steps to schedule your backup procedure.
Then, if you ever have a problem where
you need to recover data, you can go through the same steps and choose “Restore Files and Settings.” This
backup feature is even helpful if you accidentally delete a single file and
cannot retrieve it from your trash can.
As long as you have your backup process running on a regular basis, you should
never have to worry about losing large amounts of data again.
