Full-time employment positions for Digitization Technicians on-site at the Library of Congress on Capitol Hill.
This position is estimated to last 9 to 12 months with a potential for longer, pending contract renewals.
Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
Operating hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Hours will be based on access to the Library.)
Expected dates: January 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019
The digital technician will be responsible for the on-site, day-to-day digitization production. This will involve receiving batches of materials daily from Library of Congress personnel, logging these batches, and scanning on a high-end digital planetary camera system. This person will perform daily routines for digital scanning, image review, copying and backing up data. This position will report directly to the management team off-site, or possibly on-site.
Ability to work independently, with some past supervisory experience a plus
Experience in photography, digital imaging, or graphic arts
Need to handle fragile materials without causing damage
Work independently in a fast-paced production environment, while meeting daily production levels
Maintain consistently high quality levels
Perform inspection of digital images
Must be able to type accurately in order to capture metadata and record information in spreadsheet or database
Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office suite
Ability to navigate a digital server environment
Excellent communication skills
Represent Backstage in a professional manner
Ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions with little to no supervision
Willingness to work flexible/overtime hours as required
Ability to work as part of a team
Will need to perform equipment maintenance with remote assistance
Must be able to travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for training within two weeks' notice
College degree or certificate
DESIRABLE, BUT NOT REQUIRED
Experience with Adobe Photoshop or other imaging software
Experience with scanning or digitization
Pay: $16.50 per hour.
This is a temporary contract position for a minimum of 9 to 12 months.
Full-time position is non-exempt, fully benefited, with eight paid holidays per year.
